ASTM’s commitment to materials reuse: the Ventimiglia toll plaza success case

To ensure sustainable development, ASTM Group is committed to maximize the reuse of materials, both during the infrastructure construction and maintenance phases. To reduce as much as possible the introduction of natural resources from extractive sites, ASTM builds new works through the recycle of the moved soils from the construction sites. Similarly, the Group encourages the reuse of recycled aggregates from internal processing or, where not possible, from authorized and certified external plants.

The Ventimiglia toll plaza renovation project, arrival of the A10 Savona-Ventimiglia motorway and connection between Italy and France, is a concrete example of the adoption of this policy. 100% of the milled material from existing pavements was reused at the site for the construction of the sub-base layers of the new road surfaces. In addition to the complete recycle of the milled material, concrete materials from demolitions were also reused for the new construction in the percentages allowed.

Today, on World Environment Day, ASTM Group recounts this initiative, confirming its undertaking to protect the ecosystem and joining the chorus of voices active in raising awareness of environmental issues.
