21 March 2025 ASTM closes 2024 with strong growth: increase in all financial and sustainability indicators
In 2024, the ASTM Group recorded significant growth across all economic and ESG indicators, presenting for the first time a financial report that provides a comprehensive view of the company’s activities, integrating financial performance with sustainability achievements. ASTM reaffirms its position as an international player in the infrastructure sector, with turnover up by 13.5% (€4.5 billion), EBITDA increasing by 8.7% (€2.1 billion), and net profit rising by 144.5% (€460.6 million). The Group’s performance highlights the strengthening of its three main business areas: concessions, EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction), and technology.
- Concessions: expansion and strategic investments
In the motorway concessions sector, ASTM has consolidated its position as the world’s second-largest operator, managing approximately 5,900 km across Italy and Brazil. In Italy, significant investments have been made to upgrade the network and improve safety. Key initiatives include the acquisition of a controlling stake in Tangenziale Esterna di Milano and the launch of the new company “Concessioni del Tirreno,” which will manage two strategic domestic road sections. In Brazil, through its subsidiary EcoRodovias, the Group secured a 30-year concession for Nova Raposo in the state of São Paulo, further strengthening its leadership in the country. In the United States, ASTM North America has continued works to enhance accessibility at 13 New York City subway stations as part of a P3 concession awarded by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Construction & Development Company (MTA).
- EPC: growth in the international construction market
Itinera Group has achieved an important backlog of about 6.4 billion. In an increasingly complex market, Itinera Group has continued to strengthen its position with a strong focus on strategic markets (Italy, Central and Northern Europe, the USA, and Brazil), in line with the One Company model of the parent company. The expansion in the United States, driven by the growth of Halmar International, has continued to be a key driver, with new acquisitions in the public and private transportation infrastructure sector.
- Technology: innovation for infrastructure
Sinelec recorded a 10% increase in revenues, leveraging its expertise in system engineering and in the development of advanced technological solutions for mobility. Its international expansion, with new projects in the USA and the launch of Sinelec Brasil, has strengthened its role in the infrastructure technology market.
Strong ESG consolidated performance
Sustainability performance has also improved, confirming the full integration of business and ESG strategies. In 2024, ASTM generated an economic impact of approximately €13 billion along its value chain, with an estimated employment effect of over 180,000 workers.
The Group’s commitment to sustainability has led to the following key achievements: 93% of the electricity consumed during the year came from renewable sources (+25% compared to 2023), the accident rate decreased by 21% compared to the previous year, and 70% of service areas along the managed motorway network in Italy and Brazil are now equipped with electric charging stations.
