27 November 2024 Sustainability Workshop: the corporate sustainability reporting as a meeting point for our professionals around the world
The ASTM Group’s first Sustainability Workshop, which involved more than 150 managers from the Sustainability, Accounting Finance & Control, Risk and Internal Audit functions of ASTM and its subsidiaries in its European, U.S. and Brazilian operations, has just concluded.
The initiative took place over two days and emphasized the importance of building a shared vision and language. The sessions on the first day were held in hybrid mode, involving in-presence people working in Italy and giving the opportunity for colleagues abroad to connect remotely. With the support of KPMG Italy, the regulatory changes on sustainability reporting were analyzed, and the Group shared the path started to prepare the 2024 consolidated financial statements, the first document that will integrate both financial and ESG performance.
The second day started with a visit to the Biandrate/Vicolungo site on the A4 Turin-Milan highway, which houses the rainwater collection and reuse system. The plant allows rainwater to be conveyed into specific cisterns and then used for the internal production cycle of the motorway ecosystem and for industrial and agricultural use nearby the site. The water recovery project is part of the broader plan for technological innovation and ecological transition of the A4 Turin-Milan, which will elevate this motorway stretch managed by the Group among the most advanced in Italy and Europe in terms of sustainability and innovation. The workshop then featured insights dedicated to the application of the principles of European Taxonomy applied to the planning, design and execution of interventions on the highway network in order to grant its resilience to climate change. Finally, the principles of the Envision Protocol, a tool used to assess the sustainability of infrastructure projects, were illustrated, highlighting points of contact with the European Taxonomy.
Among the key messages shared, emphasis was placed on the increasing integration of sustainability within business processes and functions, as a strategic driver for business development.
